Do You Have What It Takes To Be A Successful Business Owner?

I’m sure that if you asked 100 successful business owners, you’d get 100 different answers to what skills are needed in order to succeed in business, but if you were to categorize and filter those answers, then you would probably be able to come up with a set of commonalities that are esential for success as a business owner.

Do you think there is a common set of characteristics that successful business owners have in common?

Do you know what those are? Do you have them? Or at least a majority of them?

What do you think are the 5 most critical characteristics of business owners that own successful and profitable businesses?

I recently read an article that did just that, and so I wanted to reference it. You can check out a snippet below as well as a link to the whole article.

Successful Business Owner

The article listed the following 5 characteristics as critical:

  1. Eyes on the prize
  2. A healthy relationship with risk
  3. Curiosity and an open mind
  4. Communication skills
  5. Knowing the difference between confidence and ego

Do you agree with the list?

Below I’ve quoted a snippet of the details that Kelly emphasizes on each of the 5 characteristics.

…Even though it means hard work and long hours, most find the satisfaction of working for themselves is a reward in itself. Successful people tend to be goal oriented…

…Small business owners must acknowledge the relationship between risk and reward and—like deciding on an investment strategy—determine their personal comfort level. Bumps in the road are inevitable…

…Most successful small business owners have an entrepreneurial spirit, which means being continually on the lookout for new trends and ideas that will enhance their business. Keeping up with technology, from business equipment to social media, is critical…

…Most small businesses begin with the owner’s passion. To grow a business, the owner needs to communicate that passion and inspire others—customers, employees, and investors—to believe in their vision. Communication style is determined by a combination of learned skills and individual personality. Extroverts and introverts can be equally successful…

…Successful people tend to be self-reliant because they know where their strengths lie…
