The Idea for your business and the products and services you offer to the marketplace are obviously important, but that isn’t the most critical piece for the success or failure of your business. There is More To Business than that.
The idea itself isn’t the biggest indicator of whether you are going to struggle in business or thrive.
Think about some of the successful business ideas yourself; how about in Hamburgers, some successes and failures, and the successes, like McDonald’s definitely aren’t the ones making the best quality product, so there must be some other keys to success in business besides having a great idea or the best products or services.
How about an example from retail…
Let’s take a look at the retail Shoe market. Over the past 20-30 years small mom and pop shoe stores have been repeatedly crowded out of business by the big box stores and they have been closing by the thousands, but somehow an upstart online shoe company called Zappos.com was able to not only start in the midst of all that carnage, but thrive and take significant market share away from the big box stores to boot.
More To Business
So, just like in hamburgers, in the shoe business there there must be some other keys to success and sustainability besides having a great idea for the product or service that you deliver to the marketplace.
The key to owning a successful and sustainable business is therefore much bigger than just the idea for the product or service that you are providing.
You must learn the skills of being a successful business owner if you want your business to be successful.
If you don’t know what those skills are, then you can either do all the research and educate yourself on those skills all by yourself, or you can find someone that has already been there and learned those skills and can give you a leg up on your competition that are still trying to figure it out on their own.
You don’t get any bonus points for doing it all by yourself, all you get is more stress and less time to spend on the important tasks in your business or outside of work altogether.
Remember that there’s More To Business than a great idea or marketing and someone with experience can help you to figure that out in your small business.
Business Mentors and Business Coaches are such people. They have been around the block before and can give you the shortcuts and secrets that took them years to learn the hard way.
Do you have a business mentor or business coach or both in your small business? If not, why?
